Overview

LastRoll ("we", "our", "the app") is a photography workflow tool that records voice notes and keywords in the field and matches them to your photos. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data LastRoll collects, how it is used, and your rights.

Data We Collect

LastRoll collects the following data solely to provide its core functionality:

  • Audio recordings — voice notes you record during a photography session

  • GPS location — your location at the time of recording, used to geotag your photos

  • Keywords and notes — text you enter or speak during a session

How Your Data Is Used

All data collected by LastRoll is used exclusively to match your voice notes and keywords to your photos. Specifically:

  • Audio recordings are stored locally on your device and transferred to your own desktop computer over your local WiFi network

  • GPS coordinates are embedded into XMP sidecar files alongside your RAW photo files on your own computer

  • Keywords and transcriptions are written to XMP sidecar files on your own computer

Data Storage

LastRoll does not upload your data to any cloud service or external server. All data — audio recordings, GPS coordinates, keywords and notes — remains on your own devices at all times. No data is stored on LastRoll servers because no LastRoll servers exist.

Third Party Services

LastRoll optionally uses the OpenAI Whisper API to automatically transcribe your voice notes. If you choose to use this feature, your audio recording is sent to OpenAI for transcription. Please refer to OpenAI's privacy policy at openai.com/privacy for details on how they handle audio data. This feature requires you to provide your own OpenAI API key and is entirely optional.

Permissions

LastRoll requests the following device permissions:

  • Microphone — to record voice notes

  • Camera — to scan QR codes for WiFi connection to the desktop app

  • Location — to capture GPS coordinates at the time of recording

  • Internet — to transfer sessions to your desktop over WiFi and optionally use the Whisper transcription service

Data Sharing

We do not sell, share, or transmit your data to any third party, except as described above regarding the optional OpenAI Whisper transcription feature.

Children's Privacy

LastRoll is not directed at children under the age of 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted at this URL with an updated date.
